ICC approves substitution and new field restrictions in ODIs

One-Day cricket will never be the same again.The International Cricket Council has approved the recommendations regarding substitution and field restrictions in the one-day international cricket adding a “tactical dimention” to the format making it more exciting.

The ICC chief executives’ committee (CEC) has approved the introduction of two innovations into all one-day internationals from July 30. The new regulations, which involve the fielding restrictions and the introduction of replacement players, will be trialled for 10 months after which they will be reviewed by the Cricket Committee - which made the initial recommendations - at its 2006 meeting.

From July 30 when the tri-series in Sri Lanka involving India kicks off, the rules of the abridged version will be radically altered because teams will have twelve players instead of the traditional eleven.

South Korean Kim Wins US Golf Open

Violent lightning was accompanied by rocking thunder, torrential rain and blustery winds on Sunday, as it was only Birdie’s birdie.

23-year-old South Korean golfer BIRDIE KIM has won the U.S. Women’s Open title with a stunning shot on the final hole to secure a two-shot victory at the Cherry Hills Country Club outside of Denver, Colorado.

Birdie has blasted a stunning 60-foot bunker shot into the cup on the 72nd hole here Sunday to capture the US Women’s Open as Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie collapsed in their bids And rest is history.

The shot was that stunning, and the audience was that pent-up. Until then, this tournament looked like the biggest letdown in sports since Maurice Greene and Michael Johnson both pulled up lame in the 200 meters at the 2000 U. S. Olympic trials. (more…)
